This book was published in 1934, just after Hitler had come to power. It is therefore not tainted by later events (Kristallnacht, WWII, and the Holocaust).

The following [except for explanatory phrases in brackets] is a direct quote:

Needless to say, the Nazis have completely repudiated the post-war Republic. The fourteen years of the Republic were, they contend, years of Jewish misrule in which the Jews controlled and corrupted the political, economic, and cultural life of the land. What the Jews themselves did not accomplish in this direction, “Jewish” ideas accomplished…In this fashion, we find attacked as “Jewish” the following forces for “decomposition” in German life: pacifism, atheism, political liberalism, modernized spelling, jazz, mickey-mouse souvenirs, companionate marriage [easy divorce and concubines], the theory of relativity, experimental progressive schools, birth control, nudism, the yellow press [frivolity and sensationalism], the emancipation of women, Emil Ludwig’s biographies, expressionism in art [emotionalism and cynicism], agitation against the death penalty, and flat house roofs (oriental)…The press, the films, and the theater encourage criminality and all the sensuous vices…The Jews, we are told, through their method of hypercriticism and sensationalism, were deliberately and maliciously undermining the moral bases of the German people, so as to render them incapable of remaining a fighting people…It is the Jewish doctors who have betrayed Germany through the encouragement of abortions and birth control…Judaism is a philosophy of the acquisition of wealth and power.” (pp. 43-44).

THIS BOOK HAS AN INCOMPLETE QUOTE FROM GOEBBELS

Author Jacob R. Marcus quotes Goebbels, from an interview published in the NEW YORK TIMES (September 29, 1933, p. 10), in which Goebbels inveighs against the Jews.

I have looked up the actual NEW YORK TIMES article. Marcus did not mention a decisive statement from Goebbels, in which he called the western powers for their hypocrisy in professing concern for Jews, while refusing to welcome those Jews who would leave Nazi Germany. Goebbels said, “What we do not understand is that while there were protests against Germany’s defensive action in this field, there was, on the other hand, no willingness to absorb the excess Jewish population emigrating from Germany”.

This was in 1934. Similar complaints about the West’s hypocrisy were later raised by the Nazis in 1938 (Evian Conference) and at the Nuremberg Trials (1946).

Clearly, there is plenty of blame to go around for the Holocaust, even though much of the blame nowadays is centered on Poles as the target.
