Cardinal Glemp Correct on Jews and Media Berger

Memoirs of an Anti-Zionist Jew, by Elmer Berger. 1978

“Jews Control the Media” Myth: A Realistic Understanding of Jewish Influence in America. Polish Cardinal Glemp Correct. Holocaust Supremacism Clarified

Author Elmer Berger, a rabbi and anti-Zionist Jew, considers the actions of the State of Israel to be incompatible with the humanitarian teachings of Judaism. However, it is his analysis of Zionists and the media, in the USA, that overshadows everything else, and that is the subject of my review. Berger’s insights have broader implications, and I later touch on some of these.

Rabbi Berger unambiguously rejects the notion that Zionists control the press. (p. 62). They influence it, though. (p. 62). Here is how it happens:

[The following, except for the titles [IN CAPS] are direct quotes:]

TO INFLUENCE THE MEDIA, YOU HAVE TO WORK AT IT

Whether it deserves to be so or not, in the United States public relations and publicity are a business. They require full-time effort. They cannot be conducted successfully as an adjunct or an avocation of even the best diplomat, or most persuasive business-man. (pp. 60-61). [Hear that, Poles?]

TO INFLUENCE THE MEDIA, FLOOD IT WITH INFORMATION

The Zionist propaganda machine operates on the theory that if only one percent of its mimeographed output is seen in newsprint or on television, the operation is a success. (p. 60).

TO INFLUENCE THE MEDIA, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF TODAY’S LAZY JOURNALISTS. (p. 61). SPOON-FEED THEM

If the journalists do not exert themselves to discover the “news”, those who want to make news bring it–tailor made–to the journalists. So, the sheer mass of Zionist handouts does “influence” the American media men who, it must be added, often sift through the blizzard of each day’s mimeographing with less than an educated or sophisticated eye. (p. 61).

TO INFLUENCE THE MEDIA, CULTIVATE RELATIONSHIPS WITH JOURNALISTS

The State of Israel and the Zionist organizations here have large stables of “authorities” always at the ready to fill a speaking engagement at anything from a country barbecue to a state banquet. Press-coverage, often extending to radio and television time, is a usual dividend added to the main event. The cumulative effect of much of this, which is inherently often pretty superficial and even trivial, is still “public relations” and contributes to the mental-set of the American people. (p. 61).

BROADER IMPLICATIONS

The informed reader can remember Polish Cardinal Jozef Glemp who was misquoted (deliberately?) as saying that “Jews control the media”. In actuality, Glemp had said something quite different–that Jews have “sympathetic access to the media”. There is an essential difference! The views of Cardinal Jozef Glemp, and those of Rabbi Elmer Berger, are virtually identical.

Much of what Elmer Berger wrote and Cardinal Glemp said is very much applicable to the supremacy of the Holocaust in American life–not only in the American media, but also in the educational and government establishments. It not only accounts for the proliferation of Jewish Polonophobia in American opinion-forming circles, but also the increasing redefinition of Polish history, in Jewish terms, in the minds of the American people.
